Sri Lanka is an exotic petite island lying like a fertile teardrop to the south of the country of India. Sri Lanka is a wonder-house of diverse attractions within its petite frame. It is a rich and beautiful land. There are several attractions in Dambulla to explore. Visit the Cave Temple which has five caves all hewn from a giant rock. Originally these caves were the hiding places. Late many kings embellished the caves. There are secular and religious paintings of 15th and 16th century inside the caves. In 1991 Cave Temple featured in UNESCO World Heritage List. Danbulla is a city located in Sri Lanka’s Central Province. Cave temples are the major Dambulla attractions. Visit the Golden Temple, another Dambulla attraction. This temple has the Buddha Statue designed in style of Dhamma Chakka. The work on the Buddha Statue started in 1998 and was completed in 2001. Beneath the Buddha Statue there is a modern museum displaying the history of the Buddhist culture in Sri Lanka.
Visit the magnificent Golden Cave Temple in Sri Lanka.This is a venerated pilgrimage site. This is a cave monastery which has five sanctuaries and this ancient structure is the preserved with all its grandeur.This cave monastery dates back to 1st or 2nd century BC. King Valagam Bahu while escaping from the invasion that forced him out of Anuradhapura took shelter in these caves. UNESCO in 1991 designated the Golden Cave Temple as a World Heritage Site.There is a 2,100 square kilometer of mural paintings depicting Sinhalese history and life of Buddha. There are 150 Hindu and Buddhist statues. From here you will get a panoramic vista of the surrounding landscape and the rock fortress Sigiriya.
Maha Raja Viharaya is the Temple of the Great King is another attraction in Dambulla. There are several grand Buddha statues in the temples. Uncovered shoulders, shorts, hats and shoes are not allowed in the temple.
