Udawalawe National Park is one a major Tangalla attraction. This park is located on a dry zone where the southwest monsoon is the chief source of rainfall. 29 degree C is the mean yearly temperature.
There are grasslands, scrublands, riverine forest and dry lowland forest in the park. Walawe River and Udawalawe reservoir are the two attractions of the park. Ehala, ebony, Milla and satin are the tree species grown in the area. Mandora and Kumbuk dominate the riverine forest. In scrubland and grassland there are Daminiya, Iluk and Mana trees.
There is huge elephant population in Udawalawe National Park. You can see elephants at any time here. Wild boar, smabhur, barking deer, spotted deer, mongoose and jackals are also there in this national park.
The park is teeming with birdlife. Grey hornbill, common Caucal, Blue face Malkoha, Sikir Malkoha, Malabar pied hornbill, Sri Lanka Junglefowl and warblers are some of the forest birds, Indian darter, Indian cormorant, open bill, painted stork, grey-headed fishing eagle, white-bellied sea eagle, changeable hawk eagle and crested serpent eagle are some of the other birds found in the park.
Tangalla has some stunning beaches. One of them is Unawatuna beach which is beautiful with sweeping sand bays and gentle waters. Cafes and shops line the main road. The beaches in Tangalla are beautiful, some are deserted and the water display amazing palette of greens, blues and turquoise.
