Culture of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka or the Democratic Socialist commonwealth of Sri Lanka is basically an island nation in Southern part of Asia and it is situated around 31 kilometers far from the southern coastline of India. Sri Lanka is earlier known as Heladiva and it is a place to approximately twenty million of people. So, it can be easily said that the tradition as well as culture of Sri Lanka is very rich and Sri Lanka bears all the old heritage of the country including the festivals and cultures. Sri Lanka is a strategical navy connection in between South East Asia and West Asia and Sri Lanka has been a place of Buddhist religious belief and civilization from old times.
Nowadays, Sri Lanka has become a multiethnic and multi-religious nation and with faiths other than Buddhism, Christianity, notable Hinduism and Islam, the country is a great place of culture and tradition.

The culture of Sri Lanka has been shaped by several things in the ancient times. Generally the culture of Sri Lanka has been shaped by religious belief and subjugation of the British, the Dutch and the Portuguese. The New Year of Sinhalese is a very important culture of Sri Lanka as the festival is celebrated in the month of April and celebrated by almost every people of Sri Lanka. In the time when the sun moves from the Meena Rashiya to the Mesha Rashiya, all the people of Sri Lanka began to celebrate the cultural festival of Sri Lanka.

After the boom of globalization every part of the world become a part of larger global domain and Sri Lanka is not an exceptional one as here you can see Pizza Hut, McDonald, Domino's Pizza, Kentucky Fried Chicken and many more American food products. So, the culture of Sri Lanka has turned into a 'global' culture which is a combination of globalization and local tradition.
